Mark Weidman & “The Art of Discovery”
Mark Weidman & “The Art of Discovery”
As a boy, Mark spent Friday nights (while his parents were out) digging a secret tunnel in his backyard. Not many seek adventure in suburban Philadelphia, but Mark was born to explore.
Living vicariously is not for Mark, and he has charted a course heeding Emerson’s advice not to follow where the path may lead, but to go “where there is no path and leave a trail”.
Mark brings a passion for the Great Outdoors to his photography and is best known for creating evocative images of the human element in the landscape. Clients such as W.L. Gore (GORE-TEX®) appreciate his meticulous production planning, resourceful crew and ability to make challenging assignments fun.
Mark came to advertising photography after many years’ experience shooting annual reports for Fortune 500 companies. He refined his vision and broadened his worldview shooting everything from coal mines to airlines on all seven continents.
Mark’s photography has been recognized in Communication Arts and exhibited at the Smithsonian. PBS documentaries featured his Arctic images and photographs from his first book, Pennsylvania, which James Michener applauded as “brilliantly evocative”.
An early assignment to photograph a dogsled expedition piqued Mark’s interest in polar exploration, which led to multiple trips to both the Arctic and Antarctica. He adopted the compass rose as his logo and has ardently pursued “The Art of Discovery” ever since.
